First Day of School for 2009-2010 year

Tobias started first grade, although he hasn't been too excited about it. "It's going to be boring!" or "It will be too hard!" are common complaints. The first two weeks were a bit of an adjustment - mornings were filled with, "I'm not going! I'm staying home!!" But now that we have entered October, he is finally resigned to the fact that first grade is a must. I think he actually might even be having fun - shhhh - don't tell him that!

And Cerise started preschool! She's been looking forward to it for quite a while. She is enrolled in an afternoon program on Tu, W, and Th. She usually puts up a little fuss when I leave, but then settles in for FUN! Her favorite part of preschool is the home center area with the baby dolls and tons of dress up clothes. On the days she stays home, she even tells me that she misses and loves her teacher Miss Melissa. We are off to a great start!

Cousins at the Park

Lindsay came up to Seattle to visit one of her friends and we were able to spend a couple hours at a park visiting with her. The leaves were already falling off the trees even though it was only the middle of August. The kids had a BLAST with the leaves. It was very amusing to watch.

Levi and Tobias in action!

Cerise laughing at the leaves.

Lindsay basking in leaves!

It's scary in this tree! HELP!!!!!

National Night Out

Every year our neighborhood participates in National Night Out. The idea behind it is that you get to know your neighbors with the goal of reducing crime. This year, Dan brought the WSP motor home that is often used as a mobile DUI processing center. The Lynnwood Police and Fire Department also came. Tobias was really interested in the fire truck and spent quite a bit of time inside the engine listening to the firefighters and checking out the equipment. Cerise was a little too nervous to go in the fire engine. Maybe next year!

Back in Time

Because I was such an awful blogger this summer, I am going to go back in time and share a few of our adventures during school vacation. Dan was working on the 4th of July, so Lori and Erik along with their kids, as well as John and Sue, came over to our house for a BBQ and then we walked down to the Lynnwood fire work show. Cerise was quite scared before the fireworks and I almost took her home, but once the fireworks started, she was in awe. The anticipation of what was to happen was much scarier than the actual event. We had a great time although the mob of people leaving after the show was a bit chaotic.

Arizona Trip

I just spent 9 days in Arizona with Tristan, Lindsay, and Logan. Unfortunately, I arrived with a cold and felt pretty miserable for the first couple days (this is my third trip in a row to Paul and Amy's where I have been sick with a cold!!!) but we did manage to go see G-Force at the theatre as well as hang out at the pool. The kids had already started school, so during the day I spent time at the pool and also ventured out to the Outlet Malls. We celebrated Logan's birthday by going to Peter Piper (very similar to Chuckie Cheese, but much less annoying and noisy) and we also went to a school fundraiser at Baskin Robbins. I discovered that I don't remember how to do 7th grade math anymore (I must have known how at one point) which I hope didn't ruin Tristan's grades for the week. We also had a Friday night movie at the house and watched Open Season which made me feel right at home since that is what Tobias wants to watch over and over again. I missed seeing Mimi and Chu-Chu by 2 days :( but needed to get home for the start of school for Tobias. I can't wait for the next visit so I can see those babies! Come up to Seattle and see us, Amy and Paul!!!!!

Shocking News!

Yes, this may come as a shock to most of you - our family has adopted a cat. I can't believe it myself. About a month ago, a cat showed up on our deck and the children (darn them!) let him right in. He has not left since. We even went camping for a weekend and he was still here when we returned. So, being the sympathetic person I am, (yes, really I have a sympathetic side) I bought it some food especially since it was looking quite thin. Every morning when we wake up, the kids race to the back door to let the cat in and it is chaos from then on out. They laugh, scream, and chase the cat - it happily obliges them - and when things calm down it sleeps for several hours wherever it can find peace and quiet. I finally broke down and took it to the vet because I imagined all the diseases that it was exposing my lovely hyper children to. Ugh is what I said when I saw the bill...... The cat is still here and according to Cerise and Tobias it will stay forever. That remains to be seen, but for now I am taking extra allergy medicine and gritting my teeth. Oh, and the children named him Bill.

Rock Star Cerise!

And now she is singing P!NK. Don't mess with this girl!!!!

Cerise has discoverd REO Speedwagon! Actually, this song was at the end of the Horton Hears a Who movie and she loved it. Her words are a bit off, but if I think you'll get most of it. Here's the real words for those of you who were so unfortunate as to never know REO Speedwagon:

And I cant fight this feeling anymoreIve forgotten what I started fighting forIts time to bring this ship into the shore And throw away the oars, forever..........

Check out these singing kids!

Check these two videos out. My friend Cindy had this posted on her facebook page and I thought it is too good to pass up. How I would have loved to have a music teacher like this one! And the kids are great! They are a group of fifth graders from a New York City Public School.

Bowling

For Terra's birthday, we were invited to go bowling! Tobias had beAdd Imageen bowling one time before, but this was Cerise's first time. They were both so excited to go. They both think they are experts at bowling (thanks to Wii bowling!) so I was just a tad worried that they might get frusterated at how much harder it is to really bowl. For most of the game, Tobias had the high score but Dan pulled ahead at the last minute. Here's a few clips of them in action. I made the mistake of holding my camera sideways while I videoed, hence the sideway shots. I can't seem to find a way to turn them 90 degrees. Ugh!!!! And yes, Cerise yells, "What the heck?" after her throw.

Coming Soon, To a Theatre Near You!

So the other day, I'm trying to convince Cerise that she needs to put clothes on - "Cerise! Time to get dressed! Come here naked girl! No, don't run away! I'm serious Cerise. You're going to get cold! No, it's not hot in here. You'll have to get dressed by yourself if you don't come now. Cerise! I mean it!!! Okay, now I'm going to count. One, Two, Threeeeeeee! Pleeeeaaaase!" Obviously my constant nagging was getting me nowhere. I just don't understand why my children don't instantly do EXACTLY what I want when I want. Maybe I just need a new tactic! I know - I'll try singing! I'll make up a song about getting dressed. So now imagine my singing voice at full force making up a stupid song about getting dressed (and I paid how much to get a degree in Early Childhood Education???) Time to put on underwear! It goes right on your derriere! Hurry quick and get your shirt! Before I rub your face in dirt! Okay, I may be slightly exaggerating here, but the amazing fact was that Cerise got dressed while I sang my loud, obnoxious and very annoying song. And the best part of all was that Tobias came rushing into the room at the end of my singing and very excitedly said, "Mom! You sing so good you should be on stage!!!!" So, coming soon to a theatre near you, The Terrible Momma Singer! See you there!

Oh, The Things Kids Say!

Yes, I am a terrible blogger! Who knew it would be soooo hard to think of something to write. If I were only Lori or Amy......They are quite amazing at writing interesting blog material!

In my attempt to provide something moderately interesting for those of you out there, I have compiled a list of some wacky things my kids have said over the past several months.

Tobias - "What does pervert mean?" (after watching the movie Ice Age)
Tobias - "I will be unacceptable!!!" (when he didn't want to go to soccer and was worried about kicking the ball into the wrong goal)
Tobias - "Mommy, here I come!" (he told me he said this on when he got on the school bus on his first time riding the bus home)
Tobias - "Mom, did you know that I will love you even when you are dead?"
Tobias - "Mom, I don't want to go see Jesus when I die." Me - "Why not?" Tobias - "Because I'm worried that it will be a long ride."
Tobias - "What???? I can't get married until I'm 18?" (disbelief when he found out he couldn't get married in kindergarten)
Tobias - "No mom! I'm not going to say that that lady is fat!" (when pointing at a very pregnant lady)

Cerise - "I don't want to have a birthday!!!!" (upon learning that it was her 3rd birthday)
Cerise - "Mom, can you tangle my laces?" (asking me to tie her first pair of sparkly converse shoes)
Cerise - "I have a yucky pickle noodle!!!" (she was sharing a bowl of takeout noodles with Dan and actually got a small piece of red onion)
Cerise - "What is that brown bump on that lady's face?" (pointing to a large bumpy mole on the face of a lady sitting next to us a swimming lessons)
Cerise - "I'm mad! I'm going to yell and scream at you. I'm going to stomp and kick and be rude!"
Cerise - "Mom, a little girl is going to crawl into your bed tonight" (of course she means that SHE will crawl into our bed)
